Following a failure at 11:50 a.m. on January 19, the Arizona Lottery will resume the sale of nationwide lottery tickets. The redemption of rewards is also set to resume.

A news release from the Arizona Lottery has stated that state lottery officials and Scientific Games are attempting to restart ticket sales following an outage that suspended game sales and prize redemptions.

Scientific Games, the game system operator, works closely with the AZ drawing team.

In the release, Arizona Lottery Executive Director Gregg Edgar stated:

We extend our apologies to the lottery players, our retail partners, and the beneficiary community of the lottery. Our operations rely heavily on upholding the integrity of the lottery games. While prioritizing the safety of our staff, stores, and players, we are diligently working to restore our online game as promptly and reliably as possible.

What caused the closure of the Arizona Lottery?

According to a preliminary investigation by Scientific Games, the system crash was caused by a system update and the installation of two new lottery games.

Lottery tickets purchased prior to the outage remain valid. Those that hit their 180-day expiration date during the outage period can be honored at the Arizona Lottery offices.

The Arizona Lottery is notifying players about this situation through electronic means, customer service, and social media. For the latest updates on the status of the Arizona Lottery, monitor PlayAZ.
