Century Park 16 Theaters, originally Tucson 5 Drive-In, is no longer a movie theater. The home is being converted into a hotel and casino and is located close to Pascua Yaqui Village and Interstate 10.
The Pascua Yaqui Tribe aims to fulfill a long-held aspiration of the residents of Old Pasquia Village. The recent progress in Arizona was enabled by President Joe Biden’s approval of the Old Pascua Community Land Acquisition Act in December. The area is now considered sovereign territory.
The Pascua Yaqui Tribe operates two additional games in the Tucson area.
Arizona houses over two dozen tribal casinos, primarily located in and around its two largest cities, Phoenix and Tucson. However, online casinos in Arizona are banned, making it one of the few types of gambling that The Grand Canyon State disallows.
The prior field is not the only business that will be moved to build the game complex. Companies such as Habitat for Humanity, Sonic, and Tucson Indoor Sports Center will also need to relocate for the new job.
Tribal Chairman Peter Yucupicio said that before Biden signed the land, the tribe’s optimism was low.

In addition to a brand-new gaming destination, the Pascua Yaqui Tribe also owns and operates Casino del Sol Resort and Casino of the Sun, both located in the Tucson region.
two phases of construction
Once the destruction is complete, the first of two phases will commence. This will involve the construction of the casino, a parking garage, and three food and beverage zones, all of which fall under Phase 1.
Executives state that after the completion of underground utilities and page work, Phase 1 construction could take anywhere from 18 to 24 months to finish.
In the next stage, a hotel, a convention center, and another parking garage will be constructed. However, there is no set schedule for Phase 2.
Historical relations make development important to the Pascua Yaqui people.
The Old Pascua Community Land Acquisition Act, signed by US Representative Raul Grijalva, is a cross-party legislation that aims to enhance system coordination, improve service delivery, elevate the tribe’s living standards, and promote the continued transmission of Yaqui knowledge, culture, history, and traditions to future generations.
Tuscon Mayor Regina Romero stated that the law’s passage turned the 40-acre plot where the movie theatre stood into royal property.
“The Pascua Yaqui people should be the ones to determine what transpires in this area, given its deep cultural and historical connections to them. It has taken an extended period for this to be acknowledged.”
The Pascua Yaqui Tribe purchased the field in 2011. Yucupicio states that, since then, the community has successfully navigated some challenges.
“We are seeking individuals to come over and receive some money.”
According to the cultural chairman, the new game will employ at least 800 people, and this will enhance the financial condition of tribe members.
